Sponsorship Opportunites:
Meet Michelle M

Hello I am Michelle, I was adopted as an infant in 1968, when closed adoptions were the norm. My birth parents were teenagers who had dated for 3 years, but they were not supported by their families to parent me. I grew up in a very loving and supportive adoptive family. I have always known I was adopted, but now realize that was not always common with other adoptees.  I have two brothers who were also adopted into our family as an infant and toddler. Both my immediate and extended families have ties to adoption, as many of my cousins were also adopted and several of my relatives made adoption plans for their young children.  Growing up I never felt the pull to find my first family, because I was in my family.  In 2017 I lost my mom after a long period of illness and before she died she gave me the permission to go find my kin.  I never realize that I needed that permission or that I had a desire to search for my roots.  My journey began with obtaining my original adoption information and discovered that a coworker of mine grew up in the same rural area as my first parents. She was able to help me find my first mother in 4 days of receiving my adoption information and my life has never been the same. Over the next year and half I developed a strong bond and relationship with my first mother and half maternal brother. In the winter of 2019 I traveled to Ontario to meet them both after 51 years of being apart and it changed my life.  In 2020 my first mother helped me locate my first father, my new step mother and I discovered I had another half brother and sister. My relationship with this part of my family continues to grow stronger every day.

My life partner, Dave, father and my brothers have been very supportive of me finding my first family and I feel like I have come full circle in my journey of being adopted.  I would love to chat with you more about my experiences or listen to your connection to adoption.

About The Evermore Centre

The Evermore Centre provides pre- and post-adoption support services, including consultation, education, resources and more. The Evermore Centre provides these supports and programs to adoptive families, adoptees, birth parents, birth families and professionals. When adoption becomes the plan for a child, The Evermore Centre believes the child’s best interests are met when families are well-equipped with a broad understanding of adoption and the issues that may arise along the journey. Knowing what resources are available to support the child throughout their life within an adoptive family is essential from the start.
